Try-A-Trade Program
FPDI in partnership with Lotus Learning Solutions introduces the TRY-A-TRADE pre-employment program that provides learners with an introduction to the fundamental knowledge and practical skills needed to gain employment in the construction or industrial sector. The 6-week program covers the trades of Machining, Millwright, and Welding.
The program deals with the safe use of tools and equipment, trade terminology and some basic work procedures related to different trades. This will include hands on practice with emphasis on industry expectations such as safety and professionalism. Safety training will include personal protection, job site safety, and related safety tickets.
The program runs from July 20, 2026, to
August 28, 2026.

Pre-requisites
- 18 years or older
- Committed to the 6-week program
- No prior participation in FPDI programs
Program Structure
- Machining
Safety, trade math, precision measurement, lathe & milling intro, cutting & shaping.
- Millwright (Industrial Mechanic)
Safety, tools, measuring & layout, alignment, fasteners, rigging & lockout awareness.
- Welding
Welding safety, equipment, oxyfuel cutting, MIG, Stick, Flux Core, symbols & metallurgy.
