Construction Craft Worker Program

FPDI and Manitoba Building Trades Institute, in partnership with LiUNA Training Institute, have created an accredited Pre-employment Program in Construction Craft Worker for Indigenous People. This initiative provides participants with essential training in employment readiness, safety, and construction skills, facilitating a direct pathway to apprenticeship and employment.

Construction craft workers operate mainly on construction sites, performing tasks such as site preparation, equipment setup, and working on various materials like concrete, masonry, and steel. Their responsibilities also include demolition, excavation, and managing site security and traffic. They may work on a range of structures, including residential, commercial, and industrial projects, as well as infrastructure like bridges and roads.

Key skills for this trade include mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and physical endurance. Workers must be able to collaborate effectively, interact with the public, and possess organizational and problem-solving abilities for career advancement. They often work outdoors in various weather conditions and may face challenges like heights and confined spaces. Overtime is common during peak construction periods.
