Drone Training Program

FPDI is expanding access to professional drone training for First Nations participants, helping communities build the skills and certifications needed to use drone technology safely and effectively.

The program delivers Advanced Operations courses and Flight Reviews to First Nations individuals. Participants gain the knowledge and practical skills required to conduct professional drone operations while exploring new applications for drone technology within their communities.

Training covers aviation regulations and requirements, risk management, operational planning, safe flight practices, professional drone operator responsibilities, and practical skills for conducting drone operations.

Participants can explore ways to put their new skills to work, including search and rescue, media production, local mapping, and other community-based drone applications.

By combining customized training, practical experience, and professional certifications, the program supports First Nations communities in building knowledge, creating opportunities, and developing the capacity to use drone technology in meaningful ways.

Since the program was introduced in 2018, nearly 70 participants have completed their training and earned their drone certifications.
