YOUTH PROGRAMS (Career Focus; Summer Work Experience)
The Youth Programs provides assistance to develop life and employability skills to youth through increased programming at the grass root level. The program seeks to increase community service utilizing youth clientele and create work experience opportunities targeting the youth market.
Communities may create marketing for youth employment opportunities with organizations to engage for partnerships in this funding program. Communities may also choose to deliver short term training courses within their community but this is customized within each individual community.
This program may be designed to provide employment to students during school breaks or while still in school, such as the Student Summer Employment Program or the Internship Program. An individual student is provided with an opportunity to develop and enhance employability and occupational skills with practical, on-the-job experience. Employers are generally provided with a wage subsidy to encourage the hiring of these students. Students can be working during the school year or during the summer months and must be enrolled in full-time studies.
